This video is of course just an example, and we don’t know the situation so can’t say, but I really think the cops in this country need to learn a lesson or two about being public SERVANTS.
I shouldn’t grip the wheel tighter every time I see a cop car behind me…these guys are supposed to be there to protect me…shouldn’t I get a safe feeling from them?
But we don’t, and we all know it.
The guy in this video is a classic case…if one of those boarders would have cranked him upside the head with the board then I wouldn’t have felt a tinge of sadness…
Guys like that need to be set straight.
If that was my kid I would be pissed that this guy is talking to them like that…he is supposed to be SERVING ME and protecting my kids from criminals…not swearing at them and abusing them.

cops asks nicely that kids do not ride their skateboards in an area where it is not allowed.
Kids walk away from him, and from the soundtrack, starts riding their skateboards. None of the kids are in view so there is no visuals, but it also fits well with the cop pointing out that there are cameras on the building. Why would he do that if it wasn’t because they had evidence of something?
Cop gets upset, gives them a stern talking to, to see if he gets any acknowledgment. He gets nada, writes them a ticket.
Maybe there are some parents missing in this picture, the ones that should have explained courtesy. When someone points out that you are doing something illegal, try not doing it.
Or explained common sense. If you are going to continue doing it, you might want to wait a moment before you continue instead of doing it right in front of the cop.

Looking at the video, I am pretty sure that is not continuous data. There is a splice when the kids start skating after the cop has told them not to. That would also explain why they only seem to have been on their boards for all of half a second.
Which leaves me with a question for CitizenX: Did you know? Or do you just post stuff without verifying it or even looking at it? The cop may or may not have been out of line but I think you owe him an apology.

Seriously, I don’t disagree that there are problems with police violence in this country, but this is not your poster case. There are plenty of cases you should be upset about, this one hardly registers.
What this is, is a couple of poorly raised kids that are out getting in trouble. I almost respect the cop for trying to draw the line instead of just silently writing them a ticket or driving them down town. He did something their parents should have done a long time ago. He was wrong, and bound to fail, these kids are long lost. But this is not about the US being a police state.
Where I do get curious is about how the video got edited and who knew about it before posting. People scream for heads when the police edits things in much less serious ways that this, why are you not upset that you are being manipulated?

The kids are out being disregardful of public rules and regulations. But that’s what teenagers do… sometimes they get caught and have to live with the consequences. I don’t understand the joking, laughing about it and thinking you’re getting away with something mentality.
However, the Cops are also being too agressive for these kids and it’ll just come back to bite the cops in the add later:
1) Better to be firm and talk to the kids in a level headed manner. This cop just got way too emotional/angry about the situation. While he may have the authority to write the kids a ticket, it seems like he was ‘making up his mind as he was going along’ — which is not the way justice should be enforced.
2) He doesn’t need to try to make the kids feel ’stupid’ by pointing out the building and scaring them by talking about ‘bombs and war’. Just stop them; explain what they did wrong; give them a ticket.

2. Actually those kinds said sorry and left. And even if they did skate away, the reason the kid had the camcorder, with the fisheye lens was they were probably making a skatevideo. Probably they were hitting that rail or curb. Doubtfully skating by the building is illegal. Typically it’s not.
3. Who cares if there’s a cut, and what’s up with the guy saying theres a camera, and “we’re at war” So he’s doing us a service by getting all emotional with the 3 skateboarders because of his power trip. Meanwhile somebody actually suspicious is casing the building behind their backs maybe. Too bad they were too busy pissing and moaning over the skaters.
4. The skate rule, if it even exists there, has nothing to do with homeland security. It’s all about the same stuff it’s always about..insurance or preventing destruction of property, scratching concrete. The cop is trying to turn it into something it’s not. And he’s wasting everyones time and that city’s money. Plus he’s a fuck head.

You’re judging that cop by a few minutes of film!
Actually, skating on a public sidewalk can be, and often is illegal. You get hurt by a skater on public property, the government gets sued.
Ultimately, we have a few minutes of edited film, so no real conclusion can be drawn from it. People who moan about a police state and that asshole cop are simple idiots who already have their mind made up about cops before they even watched the video.

This was shot beginning on Golden Gate St. in San Francisco, and then moves up Larkin St. to the corner of Larkin & Turk. The building in question has courtrooms in it, but is mainly an office tower for federal paper pushers. It is not clearly marked on the sides the skatepunks were on, nor is it identifiable as a courthouse from its architecture. They’re skateboarders, they don’t pay attention to that kind of thing anyway. The building is located in SF’s fabulous Tenderloin, where people are famous for not having much respect for anything. I have personally watched homeless people shoot heroin in the shadow of this building, so the notion that this cop was performing some needed service for the City or the neighborhood is pretty damn ridiculous. He just felt like terrorizing some punk white boys (probably college boys) because he could. They were smart enough to know they couldn’t stop him, he was smart enough not to take it too far. Doesn’t make what he did acceptable police work, or anything that should be tolerated, but it will probably stay under the radar.

These guys are notoriously bad cops, it’s very well known in the neighborhoods around the building. Two of them pursued someone for a minor traffic infraction at high-speed up Larkin St. for several densely populated blocks, and then found it necessary to SHOOT OUT THE TIRE. For a traffic violation. (Check SFGate.com for confirmation.) Same level of clear thinking and appropriate behavior we get out of the entire Department of Justice. These guys should likely be removed from the force, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
