Hulk Hogan’s wife seeks divorce and he didn’t even know

Linda Hogan has filed for divorce from her wrestler husband Hulk Hogan, a newspaper reported Friday.

Hulk Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, told the St. Petersburg Times that he had no idea his wife had filed for divorce. He was informed by a reporter that Pinellas County court records showed that the paperwork was submitted Tuesday.

“Thank you for the great information,” he told the reporter.

Family spokesman Adam Handelsman referred calls to another spokesman, who did not immediately respond Friday night.

“My wife has been in California for about three weeks. … Holy smokes,” Bollea later told the newspaper. “Wow, you just knocked the bottom out of me.”

The couple star in the VH1 reality TV series “Hogan Knows Best,” with their two children. Recent episodes show the normally close couple attending marital counseling, but they eventually reconcile.

On Nov. 7, Hogan’s son, 17-year-old Nick Bollea, was arrested on reckless-driving charges after a car crash. Clearwater police said Bollea crashed his 1998 Toyota Supra on Aug. 26 while street racing against a silver Dodge Viper driven by a friend. A report said Bollea was driving faster than 60 mph in a 40 mph zone.

Bollea’s passenger, John Graziano, was not wearing a seat belt and was critically injured. Bollea, who was wearing a seat belt, was not seriously injured.

The Hogans moved to a $12 million bayfront estate on Miami Beach in 2006 so their children, Brooke and Nick, could pursue singing and acting careers. They had previously lived in Clearwater, near Tampa.

Michael Vick Surrenders, Jailed Before Sentencing on Dogfighting Charge

Michael Vick surrendered to U.S. marshals three weeks before he was to be sentenced for a federal dogfighting charge, and a legal expert said it’s unclear whether the move will soften his punishment.

“It’s kind of like reading tea leaves knowing what’s the exact impact on the judge,” said Ronald Bacigal, a University of Richmond law professor who specializes in criminal law and criminal procedure.

Vick pleaded guilty in August to a federal dogfighting conspiracy charge after his three co-defendants pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate with authorities.

Federal sentencing guidelines suggest he could expect to serve a year to 18 months, but Vick, who has admitted bankrolling the Bad Newz Kennels, faces a maximum of five years in prison.

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 10 but worked out a deal “to voluntarily enter custody prior to his sentencing hearing,” according to a court document.

Vick’s lawyer, Billy Martin, explained the unexpected move as yet another step in the disgraced star’s public repentance for his involvement in a bloody dogfighting ring.

“From the beginning, Mr. Vick has accepted responsibility for his actions, and his self-surrender further demonstrates that acceptance,” Martin said in a statement. “Michael wants to again apologize to everyone who has been hurt in this matter, and he thanks all of the people who have offered him and his family prayers and support during this time.”

The order filed in U.S. District Court said Vick was taken into custody Monday “based solely on his desire to begin his period of incarceration prior to his sentencing hearing and not because of violation of any condition of his bond.”

In an e-mail sent to the AP, the U.S. attorney’s office confirmed Vick’s surrender but declined further comment.

Vick’s troubles began in April when authorities conducting a drug investigation of a cousin seized dozens of dogs, most of them pit bulls, from a Surry County property, along with equipment linked to dogfighting.

Mike Tyson sentenced to 1 day in jail

MESA, Ariz. - Mike Tyson was sentenced Monday to 24 hours in jail and three years’ probation for drug possession and driving under the influence.

The former heavyweight champion had pleaded guilty in September to a single felony count of cocaine possession and a misdemeanor DUI count.

Tyson had faced a possible maximum sentence of four years and three months in prison. Prosecutor Shane Krausner had recommended one year in prison Monday, saying that Tyson was a multiple offender who previously had been convicted of violent crime and that only now has he sought treatment for his drug addiction.

The charges stemmed from a traffic stop in Scottsdale last December.

Police pulled Tyson over after the boxer had spent the evening at Scottsdale’s Pussycat Lounge. An officer said he saw Tyson wiping a white substance off the dashboard of his black BMW, and that his speech was slurred.

Authorities said they found bags of cocaine in Tyson’s pocket and in his car.

Tyson told officers later that he used cocaine “whenever I can get my hands on it,” and that he preferred to smoke it in Marlboro cigarettes with the tobacco pulled out, according to court documents. He also told police that he used marijuana that day and was taking the antidepressant Zoloft, the documents state.

Since his arrest, Tyson checked himself into an inpatient treatment program for what his lawyer called “various addictions.”

Superior Court Judge Helene Abrams said Monday that she was impressed that Tyson was seeking therapy for his drug addiction.

“You worked to address your addiction and self-destructive behavior,” Abrams said.

County Attorney Andrew Thomas had said after the plea was entered that Tyson should be put in prison, noting that Tyson was convicted of rape in Indiana in 1992 and pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault charges in Maryland in 1999.

In 1986, Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in history when, at 20, he knocked out Trevor Berbick. He lost his title four years later when he was knocked out by James “Buster” Douglas. By 1997, Tyson’s career hit a low point when he bit Evander Holyfield’s ear during a fight.

Tyson, 41, recently had been trying to revive his career with a series of boxing exhibitions.

McCain Says He’ll Respect Clinton

COLEBROOK, N.H. - Republican presidential hopeful John McCain on Saturday said he won’t follow his rivals’ lead in taking personal shots at Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton, and that voters seeking a candidate who will do that should look elsewhere.

“I think people want a respectful debate and a respectful discussion. And if they don’t, then obviously, I’m not the person to be their candidate,” McCain told reporters in response to questions about criticism of Clinton by Republican rivals Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney.

“Legitimate policy differences, those should be debated and discussed,” McCain said. “But I don’t think you should take shots at people, like imitating her voice. I’m serious, I’m not sure what you gain by doing that.”

The Arizona senator’s comments come days after he faced criticism for not repudiating a voter in South Carolina who called Clinton a “bitch.” McCain chuckled in response to the voter’s question, but didn’t embrace the epithet. A few minutes later he said he respects Clinton, a New York senator and colleague.

His campaign, though, used news coverage of the incident to launch a fundraising e-mail. A spokesman for McCain said it brought the GOP candidate his single-highest day for online donations. A figure was not immediately available.

Romney and Giuliani have made criticism of Clinton a major focus on their campaigns. Romney, in a television ad running in New Hampshire, compared Clinton to an intern, invoking the specter of the Monica Lewinsky scandal that clouded President Bill Clinton’s second term. He also says her views are parallel to Socialist Karl Marx and that her dream would be to turn the United States’ economy into one based on a weak European model.

Giuliani frequently tells voters Clinton simply cannot be trusted. Earlier this month, he said her views change so frequently, he can’t keep track of them. “I remember John Kerry used to be accused of being a flip-flopper. She makes him look like an amateur,” Giuliani said while campaigning here.

McCain said Romney and Giuliani can run their own campaigns, but he won’t follow their example.

“If people think indulging in personal attacks and disparaging people’s character is a way to get the nomination and win an election, I’m not their guy,” McCain said. “I’m sure they can find somebody else.”

Earlier Saturday, McCain called for the reimportation of prescription drugs from Canada as a way to bring health care costs under control. Speaking to reporters about a mile from the Canadian border in Vermont, McCain said high drug prices account for too much of the cost of health care and drugs from Canada could result in a 16 to 60 percent discount.

“Drug companies and the lobbyists they pay in Washington want to keep your drug prices high. Obviously, I want them to be affordable,” McCain said, returning to his criticism of how Washington works.

Until drugs are cheaper, the cost of health care is going to skyrocket, helping to bankrupt Medicare and Medicaid, McCain said.
